UAE: Key suspect in corruption case committed suicide
Media reports said on Wednesday the a key suspect in aof financial corruption case within tNaheel's project "The World" in the UAE, committed suicide after he threw himself from the window of his room at the 29th floor at the Adress Hotel in Dubai.
Dubai police investigate the suicide of Samir Rafiq, 31, a Canadian of Pakistani origin, who stayed in the hotel after being released on the 6th of June on bail of 6 million dirhams (US$1.6 million).
Before the latest news, Dubai Criminal Court has decided the next hearing in the case will be held on September 15.
The media termed this case as "Nakheel New". Rafiq was the former sales consultant at Nakheel and he was was accused of receiving 22 million dirhams (US$6 million) bribe and causing the company to lose about 11 million dirhams (US$3 million). Other five people including Rafiq's father were accused with criminal participation and paying bribes.
