Israel and the West hope to weaken Hamas, but this round of violence is only strengthening it

Israel's ongoing assault on the Gaza strip is only strengthening Hamas.
This round of violence will strengthen not only the resolve of Hamas and the population of Gaza, but it will drive the other moderate Palestinian factions towards more despair and hence into more extremism.

Twenty years after Rwanda, the US is still reticent to use the G word amid civilian massacres.
Washington simply was not interested in stopping the death toll. The thinking in Washington was: "Look, if something happens in Rwanda-Burundi, we don't care. Take it off the list. It’s not- US national interest is not involved and," you know, "we can't put all ‘these silly’ humanitarian issues on lists like important problems like the Middle East and North Korea and so on."

Israel, Gaza and the US are strangely similar to Russia, Ukraine, and a downed airliner.
As Israel and Hamas slugged it out in Gaza for the third time in six years, there was America, once again desperately trying to pry them apart. And though more than two-thirds of the passengers on the Malaysian jetliner shot down over Ukraine were Europeans, the European Union again demonstrated its inability to act swiftly or effectively.

For Israelis and Palestinians Peace Must Not Be The Last Casualty
Simply put, even a flawed cease-fire, is better than this. For those of us who in good will want to advance a two state solution, Israeli and Palestinian, this conflict not only kills innocents and terrorizes both sides, it crumbles, at least in the short-term any chance of advancing the peace process.
