The delegation during their visit to GCAA
In line with its efforts to develop internal auditing practices implemented in governmental entities according to global best practices, a delegation from the Joint Internal Audit Sector at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) visited the headquarters of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) located in Abu Dhabi. The aim of the visit was to enhance coordination between the two parties and to exchange information and expertise pertaining to internal auditing practices.
The delegation was briefed on GCAA’s distinguished experience in the areas of risk assessment and internal auditing. The two parties reviewed the methods and principles of internal auditing, such as objectivity and independence, in addition to elaborating on GCAA’s methodology of determining accountability for the Internal Audit Unit (IAU) to the higher board, represented by the auditing committee.
The MoF delegation was also introduced to auditing methodologies applied by the IAU at GCAA, and was briefed on how to prepare and update the risk management archive based on internal and external event probabilities. The visit shed light on methods to evaluate these events in line with objectives and results.
Commenting on the visit, Massoud Hussein Al Marzouqi, Head of Financial Control Office at MoF, confirmed the need to strengthen cooperation between MoF and GCAA. He called for establishing a joint working team between the two entities, which would exchange information and help disseminate knowledge regarding internal auditing practices.
“MoF seeks to enhance communication with various internal audit and financial control units at local and federal government authorities; due to the vital role these collaborations play e in ensuring the optimum utilization of financial resources and activating sustainable and balanced development in the UAE. The delegation’s visit falls in line with MoF’s ongoing commitment to improve internal audit practices applied at government authorities to be on par with global practices”, Al Marzouqi added.
Internal auditor and IAU representative at GCAA, Ahmed Jumaa Al Marzouqi, welcomed the MoF delegation and expressed the importance of this move in building a foundation for an ongoing t relationship between both parties. He also added that GCAA is adamant about creating strategic partnerships with government authorities, and views it as one of its most prominent goals.
