75 Illegal men flown back to Egypt from Italy
Seventy-five young Egyptian men who attempted to enter Italy illegally were flown back home aboard a special flight on Sunday.
The immigrants left the North African country of Egypt in October for Libya, where they each paid 2,000 dollars to a local trafficker to take them via boat to Italy and find them work, officials at the airport said.
They were taken in several small boats to the Italian coast where they were detained by border guards, and were deported aboard a chartered flight accompanied by some 100 Italian police officials, AFP reported.
There has been a significant increase in illegal Egyptian immigrants trying to reach Europe, particularly to Italy and Malta, in order to find jobs.
In the past two months, over 2,000 young Egyptians have been repatriated, airport security services noted. (Albawaba.com)
