Under the auspices of the Heir Apparent Sheikh Thamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the activities of the 79th session of the INTERPOL General Assembly hosted by the State of Qatar from 8th to 11th November 2010 will kick off tomorrow, Monday, 8th November 2010 at Sheraton hotel in Doha, capital city of the State of Qatar. More than 1000 security officials from 188 INTERPOL member countries are taking part in the 79th session of INTERPOL held in the State of Qatar, which is the third country in the Middle East and Arab region hosting the General Assembly of INTERPOL after the Arab Republic of Egypt and Kingdom of Morocco which hosted the INTERPOL general assemblies in 1976 and 2007 respectively. The Doha conference will discuss several important security issues on the agenda of the assembly such as combating terrorism, money laundering, exchanging criminals, cyber crimes and human trafficking etc… in addition to other many security issues that are important to the security agencies around the world. It is worth to quote here that the 79the General Assembly will be a unique one in the number of participants and the number of participating delegations in addition to the presence of high level security officials from around the world who are attending the conference as guests of the Qatar’s Ministry of Interior. The assembly’s organizing committee in Qatar has taken all necessary procedures to host the assembly here and to achieve its objectives and completing it at standard that suits the reputation of the State of Qatar and its capability in organizing world level conferences and celebrations. In a statement to the media, Director of Arab and International Police Communication Department and Head of the organizing committee of the 79th session of the INTERPOL General Assembly Brig. Khalifa Nasr Al Nasr pointed out that the general assembly of INTERPOL is considered as one of the biggest and most important conferences at international level and representatives from 65 regional organizations in addition to the INTERPOL member countries will partake in the assembly. A big number of ministers of interior, chiefs of police and directors of public security from several countries will attend the INTERPOL conference to discuss major security developments at international level related to the work of INTERPOL. The INTERPOL Doha also will discuss a proposal in regard of issuing a special passport which will be used by staffers of INTERPOL and the heads of National INTERPOL offices around the world in order to ease their movement between member countries similar to the UN Passport, added Brig. Khalifa Al Nasr On his part, Assistant director of public relations department and member of the INTERPOL Doha organizing committee Maj. Muhammed Majid Al Sulaiti said that the Ministry of Interior has employed all its capabilities to make this big event with the participation of more than 1000 security officials from around the world successful. The INTERPOL Doha will witness a huge boom whether in the number of participating delegations or outstanding media coverage and the meetings of INTERPOL drag more attention because it is the biggest police organization in the world with membership of 188 countries and it possesses a long history of serious security work since it was established in 1923 and it has achieved many accomplishments at security level, mentioned Maj. Al Sulaiti.
