ABB to showcase vision for the future of the Gulf’s Utilities Sector
ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, will provide a glimpse into the future of the Gulf's power and water utility sector at this year's POWER-GEN Middle East event. ABB is the main exhibitor at the regional event, which is being held for the first time in Qatar between the 4th and the 6th October and will host utility executives from the Middle East.
Global executives from ABB will be headlining sessions on issues ranging from energy efficiency and reducing the industry's environmental impact, the latest breakthroughs in technology suited to the Middle East's water industry, managing the life cycle of a power plant to optimization solutions for power plants.
"The investments made in the Gulf's utilities sector over the past decades have been remarkable, but we need to continue to focus on this industry if we are to provide enough power and water to fuel the region's growth," said Dr Mostafa Al Guezeri, business unit manager for Power Generation and Water, Southern Gulf and Pakistan, ABB. "Estimates indicate that GCC countries will spend near enough $100 billion dollars on power generation alone over the next decade. Power and water solution providers such as ABB will work with utility providers to optimize their investments."
ABB will also be focusing on the renewable energy sector and how utility providers can benefit from ABB's innovations in developing energy grids that can integrate solar, wind and wave power with electricity produced conventionally.
"There's a global movement towards the usage of renewable energy solutions, including in the Gulf," added Al Guezeri. "Utilities have been talking to us about how best to move forward in the renewable energy space, and we're hoping to use POWER-GEN Middle East as a platform to show both governments and utility providers how both renewable and conventional energy can co-exist in one grid."
