Abbas, Obama to talk Mideast peace in late September
Palestinian sources have revealed that Mahmoud Abbas will meet with US President Barack Obama on September 23 to discuss the status of the peace negotiations between Palestine and Israel.
The US President is also slated to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss Iran's nuclear program, the negotiations with the Palestinians and other regional issues, Agence France Presse reported.
Largely in part due to the efforts made by US Secretary of State John Kerry who made six trips to the region, Israel and Palestine have resumed peace negotiations after a six year hiatus.
However, a State Department official on Sunday told the traveling press that the Palestinian official was "ignorant of what's happening in the negotiations".
"What they are saying is inaccurate and should not be taken as an indication of what actually happens in the negotiating room," he warned.
