Abbasid Gold Coins Dug up
Iraqi archaeologists have found 32 gold coins dating back to the late Abbasid era at the ancient city of Anbar, northwest of Baghdad, archaeologists were quoted by Bahrain Tribune as announcing.
"Excavations...yielded a treasure of gold coins dating back to the period of the Abbasid Caliphate Al-Nasur-Leddin-Allah," Mahab Al Bakri, an expert at Iraq's antiquities and heritage department said.
The Abbasids launched their empire in 750 A.D and ruled, with Baghdad as their capital, until 1258. The Islamic Arab cultures witnessed its golden age in the early days of the empire – Albawaba.com
