Algerian parliament results announced
The three parties allied with President Abdelaziz Bouteflika have retained their clear majority in Algeria’s parliament, the government said as it announced the outcome of Thursday’s elections.
The National Liberation Front (FLN), the Democratic National Rally (RND) and the Society of Peace Movement (MSP) together gained 249 of the 389 seats in the National People’s Assembly, said Interior Minister Yazid Zerhouni, according to AFP. According to the preliminary results, the FLN took the lead with 136 seats. Ahmed Ouyahia's RND came second with 61 seats, followed by MSP with 52 seats.
The elections' turnout nationwide reached 35.51%, the equivalent of some 6,662,383 voters, Zerhouni announced.
