Arab League and OIC call for Syrian ceasefire during Eid
Reuters reports that the two organizations have called on the warring factions to be “committed to a complete ceasefire and all acts of violence and killing of all kinds for the occasion of Eid al-Adha.”
However, it appears unlikely that a ceasefire will materialize. Since the uprising began two and a half years ago, over one hundred thousand people have died in the conflict. In addition, it is estimated that eight million Syrians are in need of some form of humanitarian aid.
Earlier yesterday, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons chief Ahmet Uzumcu also called for a ceasefire in Syria to enable the U.N. chemicals tea in Syria to meet disarmament deadlines.
