Arab Scholars Create Fund to Promote Scientific Research
A symposium of some 300 Arab scholars on Wednesday announced the creation of a fund to promote scientific research in the Arab world.
Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qassimi, ruler of the emirate of Sharjah -- where the symposium is taking place -- has donated one million dollars to the non-governmental fund, a statement from the organizers said.
The symposium, organized by Sharjah University in collaboration with the Association of Arab universities and UNESCO, brought together Arab scholars from 30 countries for three days of talks on the weaknesses of Arab scientific research and how to draw up a strategy to reduce the gap which separates them from the West -- SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates, (AFP).
