Arafat Discusses Heated Situation with Blair, Spain’s FM
British Prime Minister Tony Blair telephoned Palestinian President Yasser Arafat on Friday to discuss the escalating violence in the Middle East, reported the Palestinian official news agency (WAFA).
AFP quoted Arafat's senior advisor Nabil Abu Rudeina as saying the two leaders "discussed the dangerous situation in the Palestinian territories and the Israeli escalation and aggression against our people."
Arafat, who visited Blair in London on Monday, also received a phone call from Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Pique, said the agency.
Separately, the European Union envoy to the Middle East, Miguel Moratinos, visited Arafat in Gaza City and held talks on the rising violence, including Israel's military incursions into the West Bank.
"What happened is against agreements and is a strike against international efforts to protect the peace process," Abu Rudeina said in reaction to the incursions in the Palestinian self-rule cities of Bethlehem and Ramallah -- Albawaba.com
