Armed Man Attempts to Hijack Iranian Passenger Plane
An Iranian airplane flying from the southern city of Shiraz to Tehran, carrying both Iranian and foreign nationals, landed safely after an armed man tried to hijack the aircraft, the official IRNA news agency reported Monday.
The Fokker 100, belonging to Iran's national Iran Air airline, was hijacked Sunday by an armed passenger who requested the plane change its course, IRNA said without giving any further details.
It said the man also attempted to set the aircraft on fire, but was arrested by security men on board.
The plane landed safely at 9:30 p.m. (1800 GMT) in the central city of Isfahan, the agency said, adding that all passengers were safe and unharmed.
IRNA said that 30 foreign nationals were among the passengers of the plane.
The agency did not reveal the identity of the man or his motives - TEHRAN (AFP)
