Assad: Syria and Israel ”laying foundations” for peace
Syria's president on Monday said he believes direct peace talks with Israel are possible and that they will eventually take place. According to the AP, Bashar Assad noted that indirect negotiations alone cannot achieve peace between the two enemies. The Syrian president spoke Monday at a joint press conference with visiting Croatian counterpart.
Assad compared the peace process to the construction of a building, and said Syria and Israel are "now laying the foundations" for peace through the indirect talks mediated by Turkey.
