Bahrain to Set up $12.4m Desalination Plant

A desalination plant will be set up in Bahrain’s Hawar Island at the cost of BD4.5 million ($12.4 million), reported the Gulf Daily News on Sunday. 

“The project is now in the tendering stage,” said Electricity and Water Undersecretary Khalid Al Khan. 

The plant will have a capacity to produce half a million gallons of water a day, he said. 

“This will help meet the future drinking water requirement at Hawar Island,” he said, adding that “we hope the work will be completed within one year.” 

Al Khan said an earlier plan to build a transmission network to carry drinking water from the mainland to Hawar had been shelved. 

“We have found that the construction of a small desalination plant in Hawar is more feasible,” he added – Albawaba.com
