A knifeman shot dead trying to enter a police station in Paris on Thursday shouted Allahu Akbar, an Interior Ministry spokesman has said.
He was also wearing a fake suicide belt according to a police union source.
French media is also citing police as saying that the man is thought to have had an accomplice who is now on the run. A huge security operation is underway in the north of the French capital.
The attack happened as France marked the first anniversary of the deadly Charlie Hebdo attacks.
The assailant made an attempt to enter the police station in the 18th district at noon.
This was roughly the same time that attackers shot dead cartoonists and others at the satirical magazine’s offices of the French capital on January 7, 2015.
