Cairo: At least 14 people killed after collapse of burning building
A burning 12-story building collapsed in a Cairo suburb Monday night, trapping firefighters inside, Egypt's Middle East News Agency reported.
At least 14 people, including three firefighters, were killed. At least six people remained trapped in the rubble. Thirty-three people were hospitalised with injuries, Health Minister Mohammed Awad Tag Eddin said Tuesday.
The agency said rescuers were working to "save citizens who can be saved." Police officials told The AP some 15 firemen and policemen as well as two civilians were inside the building when it fell down.
MENA added the building fell while firefighters were trying to put out a huge fire that broke out on the lower floors, where offices are located. Some firefighters were trapped, the agency said.
The building is located in Nasr City, an eastern suburb of the Egyptian capital near the airport. (Albawaba.com)
