Castrol Goal tournament finale
Castrol Goal, the five-aside football competition, reached its climax with the finals that took place in Dubai Sports City Stadium yesterday. More than 700 teams from across the GCC registered for Castrol Goal, 300 teams competed and the 12 best teams finally battled it out in the finals. Castrol revealed the overall champions who were given a trip of a lifetime prize of being taken to the 2010 FIFA World Cup ™ in South Africa.
Castrol – an official 2010 FIFA World Cup™ sponsor is driving Castrol Goal. The event kick started in Dubai on May 8th 2009 at Raffles International School. Matches were held in Dubai, Jeddah and Riyadh with the best 4 teams from each territory qualified for the final tournament in Dubai.
Each squad consists of 8 players with the teams playing each other in mini leagues before progressing to the knock out stages. Ghadran from Riyadh took on Royal from Jeddah, beating them 8-5 in a gripping fast tempo match. Ghadran secured their place on the plane to fly for the ultimate football experience, a trip to the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa.
