Davis Stuns With Emmy Gown
Although the dress actress Geena Davis wore to the Emmys on Sunday night was beautiful, people on both coasts were talking about something other than its beauty on Monday morning, reported ABC online.
The tight, black-and-white sequined dress by designer Pamela Dennis satisfied the curiosity of anyone who ever wondered what Davis looked like without a bra.
"She's got an amazing body, so she can pull off body-hugging, second-skin things," says Dennis, who says Davis' chest-revealing gown was made of stretch tulle with a sequined overlay, both printed in a mod, optic pattern.
"I think it's nice to be shocking, but tastefully shocking," says Dennis. "That's where we were coming from."
The dress was one of four Dennis sent Davis at the request of her stylist.
"They gave me some parameters," the designer recalls, "but really, they said they just wanted Geena's dress to be a ‘Wow!'"
They got what they asked for.
"The first thing I asked was if they'd like some kind of lining," recalled Dennis, who says Davis experimented with lighting similar to the kind used on red carpets before they made a decision.
Davis ultimately wore a matching G-string, chosen from one of four Dennis sent for her perusal.
New York-based stylist Rachel Zoe Rosenzweig was in Los Angeles for the awards and says the post-Emmy buzz about Davis' dress was considerable.
She says she's not surprised: More and more actresses are wearing minimum clothing to awards shows in order to get maximum attention.
"If you wear a revealing dress, you get 95 percent, no, 100 percent, more press attention than you would if you wore something else," Rosenzweig says. "The more skin you show, the more attention you get.
"Some [press] love it, some hate it, but they aren't giving it negative press. They're giving it press, period."
Davis is in good company when it comes to baring bods at awards shows.
Barbra Streisand wore a see-through black pantsuit by Arnold Scassi in 1968. Cher, of course, wore many revealing Bob Mackie outfits to that then-staid show in the mid-'80s. And on Sunday night, Halle Berry accepted her Emmy wearing a strapless, sheer dress with a very revealing top.
Dennis, who spoke with Davis on the phone Monday, said the actress was pleasantly "bowled over" by all the dress hoopla.
"She couldn't believe that all eyes were on her, in fact, she said she felt like she was wearing eyes" – Albawaba.com.
