Delegation of Emirati women artists to visit the Frieze Art Fair
A delegation of young, Emirati women artists participating in The Sheikha Manal Art Exchange program have departed for London today as part of an enriching art program where they will experience one of the city’s most vibrant cultural festivals, centered on the acclaimed Frieze Art Fair.
The visit, which is scheduled to take place from October 13-22, is the second project to be organized by the Art Exchange Program founded by Her Highness Sheikha Manal Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment and wife of H.H Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs. H.H Sheikha Manal Art Exchange Program organized a successful visitation of the Art Basel Fair and the University of Art & Design Basel in Switzerland last year.
“Programs such as these allow talented young women the opportunity to experience artistic expressions of a very high caliber firsthand. London is a city where contemporary culture plays a decisive role in fashioning the fabric of daily life and we hope that this visit will serve as an inspiration to the program’s participants to develop their creative abilities in imaginative new ways,” says HH Sheikha Manal.
Participants of the Sheikha Manal Art Exchange Program comprise current students and alumni pursuing careers in art and design from universities across the Emirates including Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. Visits to international art festivals assist in advancing the program’s long-term commitment to foster artistic and cultural ties between the UAE and the global community, by exposing participants to the international contemporary art scene.
The Frieze Art Fair, which takes place every October in Regent’s Park, will feature more than 150 galleries from around the world, showcasing new and established artists to an international audience. The Sheikha Manal Art Exchange program will allow participants the opportunity to visit not only the art fair, but to interact with some of the most prominent art establishments of the United Kingdom – the Tate Modern, the Royal Academy of Arts, Victoria and Albert Museum, the Serpentine Gallery, London’s East End, Zoo Art Fair, Tate Britain and other private studios and collections – through guided visits and study tours. Upon returning to the UAE, an art exhibition will be hosted to allow the participants to showcase works of art inspired by this collective creative experience.
Through initiatives such as these, the Sheikha Manal Art Exchange Program seeks to underscore the role of UAE women in art and open new vistas for talented young women through strategic partnerships with globally renowned art and academic institutions.
