Demonstrations in US, Iran to mark anniversary of student riots
Hundreds of Iranian-Americans gathered Wednesday on Capitol Hill to protest the regime in Tehran at an event marking the fourth anniversary of student clashes with security forces in the Iranian capital.
The protesters came from around the United States and gathered in front of Congress, where they chanted slogans against the regime in Tehran, AFP reported.
"Iranians want freedom and a secular democracy," said Iraj Zamanian, a spokesman for the organizers. "So they want the Islamic Republic to be removed."
Meanwhile, in Iran, tens of thousands of Iranians gathered on an area around Tehran University in their cars late Wednesday to mark the anniversary of the "pro-democracy" student riots, defying a huge deployment of riot police and hardline vigilantes. (Albawaba.com)
