Dohaland today announced that it will host a traditional 'Garangou' festival for children and families, featuring a number of heritage games. The revival of these games played by past generations is in line with the company's commitment to maintaining community interaction and preservation of traditional Qatari heritage. Qatari traditional games include Al-Qais, Ad-Dawwama, Tilah and many others.

The event, which is open to public, is due to take place at the Heritage Village on the 13th of Ramadan (August 23rd) between 8pm and 10.30pm.

The festivities will be accompanied by recitals of traditional songs as well as other activities. Participants will be able to witness a demonstration of the games as well as take part in competitions for the chance to win prices. Garangou bags, prizes and gifts as well as traditional Qatari food will also be available at the event

Speaking of the initiative, Jawaher Al Khuzaei Manager, Communications of Dohaland said, "We are delighted to be hosting this festival for the second year running. This is an opportunity for all members of the family to enjoy a night of tradition and experience the games of the past. This celebration of Garangou is the perfect opportunity to promote our heritage, celebrate the history of these traditional games and have fun doing it."

The event forms part of Dohaland's corporate social responsibility programme which aims to enrich the lives of people in Qatar and promote social activities and interaction amongst the community.

Garangou is a traditional children's festival celebrated on the 14th of Ramadan around the Gulf region. It is marked by its traditional Garangou song, as well as fancy outfits worn by children as they knock on their neighbours' doors asking for sweets and nuts.

Dohaland has been actively engaging the Qatari community in 2009 and 2010 with many creative initiatives organized by the company to support various causes and society groups such as - Let's Paint Doha of Our Dreams contest,as well as World Environment Day celebration. Doha residents and visitors can also learn more about Qatar's past, present and future at Dohaland's Knowledge Enrichment Centre moored off Doha Corniche. The Centre
