Dubai Police College to be Expanded into Dubai Police Academy
Starting in January 2002, the new Police Academy will train in more fields, offer broader curriculum, and add Society Health as a focus area.
Dubai’s Chief of Police, Maj. Gen. Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, has said that the Dubai Police College is to be converted into the Dubai Police Academy, major UAE dailies reported today. The orders for the conversion were given by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, UAE Defense Minister and Head of Dubai Police and Public Security.
The Chief of Police said that as part of the change the Academy will add a new Security and Technical Training Institution, which will include sections such as forensic, administrative training, traffic and technical. The Academy will also hold special training courses, and will organize seminars, lectures and exhibitions. "It will send personnel to educational training courses organized in accredited universities and prepare researches in security fields," he said.
A unique addition will be the introduction of a coordination, follow up and psychological center for society health. Dubai police stresses social involvement as a key means to promote a crime free society.
Maj. Gen. Dhahi stressed that the aim is to enhance skills and improve the performance of students. It will prepare them to work as experts, trainers and solve problems they may encounter during their duty inside or outside their departments.
The latest class graduated from the Police College in November, and included 111 police cadets. (www.albawaba.com)
