Egypt: Islamists win 70% of seats
Egyptian Islamists have won more than two-thirds of parliamentary seats, almost half for the Muslim Brotherhood, according to official results published on Saturday for the first election since the fall of President Hosni Mubarak. The Muslim Brotherhood's Party of Freedom AND Justice (PLJ), won 235 seats out of 498, approximately 47%.
The Salafist party of Al-Nour came in second with 121 seats (24%)
The Liberal Wafd gained about 9% of the seats. The coalition of liberal parties won 7% of the seats. Ten additional seats will be filled by the head of military council, Marshal Hussein Tantawi. The new Parliament is responsible for drafting a new constitution. The PLJ has already announced it had chosen its secretary general, Saad al-Katatni, to chair the People's Assembly, following an agreement with other parties. The first session of the new People's Assembly will be held Monday in the presence of Tantawi.
A presidential election is expected before the end of June with the opening of nominations on April 15. The army has pledged to hand over power to civilians after a president is elected.

Egypt: Islamists win 70% of seats
Islamist parties being elected to a majority
in the Egyptian Parliament is neither a good or
a bad event .
the fact that most Egyptians voted in their first
election , that the winner had not been pre-determined ?
that is the GOOD out-come of this story .
chanting ; death to Mubarak or death to Israel .
may have gotten some of these candidates elected ?
but now , these parliamentarians have the responsibility
to govern a nation .
Egypt's economy was a shamble before the revolution .
and in many ways the Egyptian economy is worse now
after this revolution .
at least 1/4 of Egypt's economy depends on tourism .
and the images of demonstrations , and acts of violence against women
have been shown around the world .
tourism is down , some members of the former regime
have moved their wealth out of Egypt .
the average Egyptian needs a stable job , that pays more
than just a subsistence wage .
at one time the library's and the university's of Alexandria .
were the knowledge center of the known world .
today , far too many Egyptians , can not read or write .
today , for too many Egyptian bachelors must put off
marriage for they are just simply too poor to propose ?
the great dynasty's of China fell into disarray , and
suffered from occupation .
and suffered for centuries as being no more than a
mere pawn in the hands of foreign powers .
sadly the same is a similar history of Egypt ?
weather a Russian alley under Nasser .
or an American alley under Mubarak .
Egypt's leaders chose to gain only military might .
Egypt has been blessed by leaders that seem to put
the needs of average citizens at the bottom of
STATE priorities ??
