Leaked video shows Egyptian military chief asking how best to "terrorize" media
A new video has emerged showing Egyptian army chief General Abdel Fatah el-Sisi discussing with senior officers the best tactics to “neutralize” and “terrorize” the media.
Sisi was the Minister of Defense in Morsi’s government. However, he played a prominent role in the July 2013 military coup against the Muslim Brotherhood government.
In the video, a senior officer suggests to Morsi, “We should engage with these people directly and individually either terrorize them or win them over.”
Sisi then interrupts the officer and says: “I know how to win them over, but tell me how do you suggest I terrorize them?”
Since the military takeover on July 3, the Egyptian military has launched a harsh crackdown on protestors. Mr. Morsi has been arrested on charges of “inciting violence”. In addition, dozens of journalists have been arrested and several television stations shut down in Egypt.
