EgyptAir passenger plane hijacked en route to Cairo, lands in Cyprus

According to Egyptian officials, the EgyptAir passenger plane was hijacked as it travelled from Alexandria to Cairo. The hijacker is believed to have forced the pilot to land in Cyprus.
The hijacker requested for the flight land in Cyprus, the airline spokesperson told Bloomberg. Officials said the hijacked plane has landed at Larnaca airport in Cyprus.
The plane was said to be carrying 56 passengers, seven crew, according to an EgyptAir spokesman.
An explosive device is thought to be on board.
