Egyptian Premier Placates Miffed MP, Youth Minister Denies Corruption in Clubs
Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Ebeid said Sunday that his electricity minister would apologize for insulting a parliamentarian.
The premier also affirmed, in a parliamentary session held under the chairmanship of Fathi Sroor, that his government’s relationship with Parliament was based on mutual respect.
Ebeid came to the session immediately after being informed by Minister for Parliamentary and Shura Affairs Kamal Al Shazly that a representative planned to resign to protest an alleged insult by Minister of Electricity Ali Al Saidi.
For his part, Sroor said Parliament would not accept insults directed at any of its members, and parliamentarians demanded that the name of the concerned minister be made public.
Meanwhile, Minister of Youth Aliddin Hilal reiterated that his ministry was not concealing any corruption, adding that anyone who violated the law would be referred directly to the prosecutor general.
Responding to requests submitted by some members at the Sunday session, Hilal said that the dissolution of any youth club required logical justifications, including violations of regulations or serious mistakes – Albawaba.com
