Emarat sponsors "No Smoking Women" Campaign
Emirates General Petroleum Corporation "Emarat" sponsors the awareness campaign "No Smoking Women" organized by the Dubai Municipality as participation in the “World No Tobacco Day 2010,” on 31 may 2010 on which Emarat shall cease selling cigarettes and other tobacco products in its various stores and shall launch an awareness campaign in its service stations in Dubai during which all the employees at these stations will wear special T-Shirts with a massage incorporating the slogan of the campaign.
Mr. Hussain Kazim, Manager Corporate Communications at Emarat, said that Emarat's participation in this campaign comes in line with its commitment to fight smoking which is considered one of the most dangerous diseases of our time. Scientific studies showed that smoking kills four million people in the world annually. Moreover, its dangers do not affect only the smoker, but also his surrounding environment and the community in which he lives, hence smoking is considered as an unhealthy and uncivilized behavior.
Mr. Hussain added that Emarat through its participation in this anti smoking initiative, calls for taking measures against smoking and fighting it with all the possible means until it is completely removed from our society. Emarat also called for helping smokers quit. Moreover, the campaign launched by Emarat in all its service stations in Dubai aims to raise health awareness within the community, in particular within women, regarding the dangers and negative effects of smoking on life, health, and the environment.
This campaign organized by Dubai Municipality aims at raising awareness regarding the effects of negative smoking on smoking women in general and pregnant women in particular together with the effects of smoking on the fetus, skin, women and society. In addition, this campaign will confirm the necessity of having a healthy life style based on healthy habits, food and sport. The Anti Smoking Campaign will highlight the efforts of Dubai Municipality to provide free tests for people and smokers and enlighten them to quit smoking.
