FM: Damascus ready to cooperate with Washington
Syrian Foreign Minister Faruk al-Sharaa said Tuesday that U.S. charges that Syria was a rogue nation were unjust but Damascus was ready to collaborate with Washington.
Speaking at a press conference with European Commissioner for External Relations Chris Patten, Sharaa said Syria was ready to review "just demands" from Washington. He added Damascus would do this for the sake of Iraq's unity and in order to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the
Arab- Israeli conflict.
On his part, Patten said "we have a shared interest in a stable Iraq emerging from the chaos of war." He admitted to differences about what role the U.N. should play and how quickly it should get involved in rebuilding Iraq.
