Ford expects impressive 40 per cent growth in Saudi Arabia
Ford Middle East expects to close 2010 on a high note with a 30 per cent increase in its vehicle sales across the GCC markets versus 2009, with Saudi Arabia registering a staggering 40 per cent growth in Ford and Lincoln sales at a time when the industry saw a 9 per cent growth.
The company is confident that this trend would go well into 2011 thanks to the strong products that it is launching at the Riyadh Motorshow this week (Dec 5-9), including the new 2011 Ford Edge crossover, the new 2011 Ford Mustang in both V6 and V8 versions, the new 2011 Lincoln MKX and the all-new sub-compact B-segment contender, the new Ford Figo.
"Ford continues its tremendous growth across the region, and I am pleased to say we now feature one of our most refreshed and youngest lineups ever, and we are confident that these new products will capture the hearts and minds of show visitors at first glance," said Hussein Murad, Ford Middle East's Regional Director of Sales.
Passenger cars led the growth, with sales up 33 per cent region-wide based on preliminary 11-month figures and forecasts to year end, led by Taurus, Fusion and Focus. Trucks and SUVs also saw an upswing, showing an increase of 24 per cent over last year, with Explorer, Expedition and Edge taking the lead. In Saudi Arabia, trucks and SUV sales increased by 47 per cent, and passenger car sales went up by 36 per cent.
"It is evident that Ford in the region is reaping the benefits of our global One Ford plan," said Larry Prein, Ford Middle East's Managing Director. "The transformation in our products, Ford's industry-leading quality and class-leading innovations are clearly being appreciated not just by the experts, but most importantly by our customers."
"Ford continues to grow and expand in Saudi Arabia as we add more and more branches to our expanding network to connect with our customers wherever they are," said Sabah bin Abdullah Al Kraidees, Sales & Marketing Director of Al Jazirah Vehicles Agencies Co, the Ford and Lincoln importer-dealer in the Kingdom. "The growth that we witnessed this year which clearly outperformed the industry four times, once again confirms that more and more customers prefer Ford and Lincoln products as they realize the industry leading quality, innovations, reliability, safety and above all, the great value.
"Our drive to invest in further expanding our network stems from the increasing demand for our products. With new and strong products on the way, it is only natural that we expand in order to make these products available at close range to our growing customer base," Al Kraidees added.
"Overall, 2010 has been a very successful year for Ford as we grew our market share and continued to outpace the industry across global and regional markets, and the best is yet to come as we roll out our latest products across the region," added Murad. "The new 2011 Ford Edge, the new Mustang with its choice of two engines as well as the Lincoln MKX are each leaders in their own categories and feature awesome developments on quality and technology. We are confident they will hit the right chord almost instantly."
The Ford stand in Hall 4 of the Riyadh Exhibitions Center will feature a host of new products and technologies and promises to engage show visitors with some really cool activities:
Muscle car enthusiasts will get to check out the legendary Ford Mustang which comes with a choice of an awesome entry level 305HP 3.7LV6 and the super performing 412HP 5.0L V8 Mustang GT.
The new 2011 Ford Mustang puts 305 high-performance horses in the hands of V-6 coupe buyers with a new all-aluminum double-overhead-camshaft (DOHC) engine that delivers 31 mpg (13.18 km/liter) on the highway with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2011 lineup also sees the modern 5.0-liter four-valve Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) V-8 engine in the new Mustang GT, with fuel economy projected to be better than the previous model and unsurpassed in the segment.
2011 Ford Edge
The 2011 Ford Edge created quite a stir when it debuted in GITEX earlier, and rightfully so. Its bold new design has been making heads turn as it blends technology and class-leading powertrains in a revamped package. Dramatic freshening of the 2011 Ford Edge includes extensive exterior redesign, improved materials and craftsmanship on the interior, class-exclusive technology and new powertrains.
In addition to delivering customer-focused technology, the new Edge also showcases Ford's impressive drive to bring new powertrain options to the customer. Both the Edge 3.5-liter V-6 and Edge Sport 3.7-liter V-6 use advanced engine valvetrain technology (Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing, or Ti-VCT) and clever control strategies to increase horsepower and torque to best-in-class levels.
Currently, Ford Edge is creating buzz with its revolutionary MyFord Touch™ driver connect technology, which no one in its segment or the industry is able to match. The industry-first MyFord Touch driver connect technology provides a smarter, safer, simpler way to connect drivers with in-car technologies and their digital lives. It replaces traditional vehicle buttons, knobs and gauges with clear, crisp LCD screens and five-way controls like those found on cell phones and MP3 players.
2011 Ford Figo
Ford's passenger car lineup sees that introduction of a new sub-B compact, the all new Ford Figo, which will debut in Oman and Saudi Arabia at the Motorshows, bringing a smart and affordable contender to retail and fleet customers looking for a quality and value vehicle in the sub-compact segment.
Figo's exterior and interior styling follows global kinetic design elements bringing a new set of standards in its category. The interior of the Figo features five-passenger seating and more interior features for customers wanting something new and refreshing in a Sub-B compact.
Figo offers two fuel-efficient powertrains for the Middle East market: The 1.4L (80ps) Petrol Duratec equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, and the 1.6L (101ps) Petrol Duratec paired with a 5-speed automatic.
2011 Lincoln MKX
The 2011 Lincoln MKX luxury crossover features the first application of industry-exclusive MyLincoln Touch™ driver connect technology, which creates a whole new way for customers to interact with digital and vehicle technology. Its modern, flowing exterior design embraces Lincoln signature DNA - split-wing grille, body-side brightwork and new treatments for taillamps and exhaust tips enhance presence. The Lincoln MKX's all-new interior showcases use of more luxurious materials and attention to detail.
Powertrain enhancements include a new 3.7-liter Duratec® V-6 engine, delivering best-in-class 300 horsepower and 270 ft.-lb. of torque versus all V-6 competitors – plus unsurpassed fuel economy.
Industry leading technologies
Ford's drive for innovation continues this year as new technologies continue to find their way to the region. But the most prominent and eye catching one is probably MyFord Touch™ and MyLincoln Touch™ driver connect technologies that come with the new 2011 Ford Edge and the new Lincoln MKX respectively.
Both new innovations, powered by SYNC, replace many of the traditional vehicle buttons, knobs and gauges with clear, colorful LCD screens and 5-way buttons, offering a smarter, safer and simpler system to connect drivers with in-car technologies and their digital lives. The screens can be personalized to display information relevant to each individual driver using a simple button click, voice command or touch screen tap.
Visitors to the Ford stand in Hall 4 at the Riyadh Motorshow (Dec 5-9, 2010, 5-10pm) will get a chance to experience the F-150 SVT Raptor in an engaging ride with pounding terrain, radical turns and unpredictable maneuvers to handle.
For the serious competitors, scores will be tracked live on the Ford tab on www.jeeran.com, where the best score of the show will win an i-Pad and 2nd and 3rd places will get exciting Ford branded goodies.
Football fans can opt to challenge their gaming skills with an impromptu fooseball game with friends and other players, while fans of customization and Mustang can see for themselves, live, how a Mustang is upfitted and personalized.
For the techies, hands-on experience of the new MyFord Touch™ driver connect technology is also possible through a special setup that simulates the interior of the new Edge allowing full demos of the technology on the stand.
Lincoln also showcases a series of its new technologies including the industry's innovative Active Park Assist and the EcoBoost engine technology, in addition to the Lincoln Theatre where consumers can experience the awesome sound system brought to them by the in-car sound system.
