Gaza Strip’s border with Egypt remained opened on Sunday although Egyptian forces blocked Gazans from driving beyond the border town of Rafah.
Meanwhile, press reports suggested Hamas and Fatah have accepted Cairo’s invitation to hold talks on the border crisis. Since Wednesday, Egypt has been under American and Israeli criticism to seal the border.
Now, Egypt is expected to invite Hamas and Palestinian Authority leaders for separate talks to discuss the border situation. Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit on Saturday made the remarks after a ministerial meeting held by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to discuss the situation at the Egyptian-Gaza Strip border. According to Abul Gheit, the talks will be held separately in Cairo with Fatah and Hamas leaders.
Abul Gheit is scheduled to hold talks on Sunday with interim Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories especially in the Gaza Strip as well as efforts to achieve Palestinian reconciliation.
