GCC Seventh Stamp Conference and Fair to Open Sunday
The Seventh Gulf Cooperation Council Stamp Conference and Fair is expected to be launched Sunday in Dubai following a seven-year sabbatical since Abu Dhabi hosted the first event.
The Dubai Minister of Communications, Ahmed Al Tayer, and the UAE Director General of the Post Office Service Ibrahim Al Dabbous will inaugurate the fair which will continue until October 11 amid extensive participation from Gulf countries, led by embassy representatives and important figures.
The UAE-based daily Al Bayan said that this fair, which would be held at the Dubai City Center, will come as part of the world's celebrations of International Post Day on October 9.
The daily added that Dubai had again been focussed upon as a linking point for those who have post interests in the GCC countries and want to exhibit their unique old and new stamp collections.
The six GCC countries will participate in the annual fair, as every one of them will have the opportunity to exhibit its national stamps in addition to sets of various other stamps.
According to the paper, this is expected to provide the fair's visitors of all age groups with the opportunity to see stamps issued by the GCC countries which depict their civilization, social and economic heritage.
The UAE has issued a new special set of stamps for the fair in addition to establishing a small museum to feature some of old post office boxes, scales, tools and historical stamps.
In addition to the fair, a conference will be held for those who have postal services interests on the fair inauguration day to discuss important topics relating to the development and improving postal services -- Albawaba.com
