German hostage freed in Syria
A German kidnapped by Islamic State militants in Syria over a year ago has been released Sunday, AFP reports.
The 27-year-old from the German state of Branderburg is believed to have traveled to Syria in June 2013 for humanitarian purposes prior to being kidnapped.
The man who has not yet been named was initially reported missing by his family when he failed to contact them, according to a Sunday newspaper, Welt am Stonntag, who broke the story.
A video containing a ransom demand and the execution of another hostage was released earlier this year, although no money was paid for the man’s release, AFP said.
