Half of Busted Yemeni Robbery Ring are Policemen
A security source in the Yemeni capital of Sana’ revealed Sunday that security authorities arrested a robbery ring, half of whose members are policemen and employees at the ministries of interior and defense, in addition to two high school students.
The UAE newspaper Albayan cited a Yemeni security source as saying that the recurrent thefts and house break-ins in the northern neighborhoods of the capital prompted some Yemeni citizens to form an observation group. At dawn last Monday, the group succeeded in capturing six people who had broken into one of the houses. Later on, it was revealed that one of the captured was an officer at the Yemeni intelligence department responsible for security in the area.
One of the ring members was also found to be a soldier who works as an assistant to the officer. Another member of the gang was an army sergeant and ghat seller who was later described as a security source.
The newspaper cited the security sources as saying that there was an exchange of gunfire between the thieves and the watchful citizens after which the thieves surrendered. On the other hand, the area security commander said that the lieutenant of the intelligence department had been on duty but the citizens refused these claims and insisted on handing him over to the ministry of interior. They demanded the formation of a special investigation committee to ensure that the thieves are not released and reveal the other ring members who are still at large. Furthermore, the citizens demanded compensation for their losses, the daily said – Albawaba.com
