Hamas Urges Palestinian Holy War after Lebanese ‘Shining Victory’
Hamas called on the Palestinians Thursday to draw inspiration from their comrades in Lebanon and launch a holy war to recover Israeli-occupied land.
"The heroic victories of our brothers in Lebanon against the Zionist enemy confirms that Jihad (holy war) and resistance are the only way to recover their rights," said Hamas, one of the main Palestinian movements violently opposed to peace with Israel.
Hizbollah fighters found themselves Wednesday the new masters of south Lebanon after waging a bloody and successful campaign to put an end to more than two decades of Israeli occupation.
"The Zionist enemy only understands the language of weapons and yields only to martyrs and valiant men. It is a lesson the Palestinians must understand," Hamas said in a statement.
Another Palestinian faction, the Islamic Jihad, issued a similar call.
"The parody of the negotiations serves only to sell off our land, confiscate our rights and keep our prisoners in the hands of the usurpers," it said, calling on the Palestinians to take inspiration from the "shining victory" of Hizbollah.
Hamas's spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin sent a message to Hizbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, hailing it as a "shining victory for Muslims and Palestinian and across the whole world."
"It is a prelude to a victory for the resistance in the occupied land of Palestine," he said.
