Two-day event aims to promote broader “Suggestion Schemes” implementation in the Middle East
Dubai Quality Group (DQG), an organization dedicated to raising the general performance level of the local business environment, has announced the start of the 3rd annual Ideas.Arabia International Conference today (Monday, April 21, 2008) at Majlis Al Salam ballroom in Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai. H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Department, and the patron of DQG, under whose patronage the event is being held, inaugurated the conference.
The two-day Conference will gather international experts and regional businesses to discuss best practices and current trends concerning ‘suggestion schemes’, a human resource strategy that encourages ideas from non-management employees to enhance standardized procedures and improve quality.
The event was preceded by two workshops that were moderated by Bernie Sander, President of Innovation Transfer, and Thomas Dupre, IBM Learning Program Manager for Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing. The conference proper will include presentation sessions led by prominent speakers which include Andy Beddows, Chairman, IdeasUK; Chris O’Donnell, CEO, Nakheel; Abdulqader Obaid Ali, Chairman, Ideas.Arabia; Dr. Akbar Jaffari, Chief Executive, Jaffari Consultants; and Strategic Innovator Jabir Walji.
“The Dubai Government recognizes the important role of innovation in realizing the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to develop Dubai as a global business hub, promoting business excellence and competitiveness. The potential for innovation is not exclusively found in corporate and public leaders, though; it dwells within all employees, and harnessing it spells greater success for organizations, and sustained growth for Dubai and the country as a whole,” said Marwan Al Sawleh, Chairman, DQG.
The Conference’s major sponsors include Dubai Aluminium (Main); Dubai World and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Jumeirah Group (Platinum); Dubai Properties, the Kanoo Group, Commercial Bank of Dubai, Oman Insurance Co. (Gold); and Silver Al Khaleej Sugar Co., Ducab, Dubai Municipality, and Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Silver). The event will be capped by the announcement of the winners of the annual ‘Idea of the Year’ Award.
Organised with the theme “Living Innovation,” the Conference is the major annual event of DQG’s Ideas.Arabia Subgroup, a forum of companies dedicated to disseminating and optimizing the effectiveness of suggestion scheme programs.
The Ideas.Arabia Subgroup aims to create a broad awareness of suggestion scheme programs; their implementation; evaluation; award structure; audit system; and benchmarking. The Subgroup supports the DQG’s broader goal of enhancing business performance levels in Dubai, which in turn complements the Dubai Government’s Strategic Plan 2015.
“Our Conference seeks to be an agent of change in the Middle Eastern businesses; we want recognition for the potential of employee empowerment to enhance organizational productivity and efficiency. Last year, our theme was “Innovation: Make It Happen”, where we emphasized on the power of innovation to attain success; this year’s theme, “Living Innovation”, urges organizations to include innovation as an essential part of their philosophy and daily operations. Participants will definitely be enlightened and motivated by the experiences and thoughts of our impressive lineup of international experts,” said Abdulqader Obaid Ali, Chairman, Ideas.Arabia Subgroup.
International studies have shown that the degree of success of innovations is greater in organizations that encourage and accept ideas from non-management employees and provide significant feedback to employees about corporate ideas. DQG through its Ideas.Arabia Subgroup has committed to exploring this human resource management paradigm and how it can be more effectively implemented in Dubai companies and the unique Middle Eastern business environment.
