Iran hangs "Mossad killer"
In Iran, a man accused of being a spy for Israel, was executed by hanging. The announcement was made by Iranian authorities on Tuesday.
Jamali Majid Fashi was sentenced to death last August for the killing of an Iranian nuclear expert. This happened in January 2010. The engineer was killed in an explosion of a bomb planted on a motorcycle outside his home. "Jamali Majid Fashi, was a Mossad spy and responsible for the assassination of our nuclear scientist Massoud Ali Mohammadi, was hanged Tuesday morning at Evin prison in Tehran," IRNA reported.
Iranian officials said Majid Jamali Fashi had confessed to the killing. In a "confession" aired by state television on the eve of his trial, Jamali said he was trained in Israel how to kill Ali Mohammadi, a professor at Tehran University who also worked for the Revolutionary Guards, the elite unit of Iran's armed forces. Tehran stated that he had worked for the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service, which paid him US$120,000.
In recent years, several Iranian scientists were killed. They were all involved in the nuclear program. Each time, the Iranian regime accused Israel and the United States of being behind the attacks. The Americans have denied, while the Israelis have never made any comment.
