Iran Judiciary Closes Three More Pro-Reform Newspapers

Iran's conservative-led judiciary has ordered the closure of three weekly newspapers close to the reform movement, state radio reported on Tuesday.

The judiciary said in a statement that Mihan, Sobh-e Omid and Sepideh-e Zendeghi, all considered close to President Mohammad Khatami, had been "provisionally" shut down for violating the press code.

The papers have been charged with taking over the logos of publications that had been previously banned.

The conservative courts have closed more than two dozen newspapers and journals since April, almost all of them pro-reform. Several newspaper chiefs and journalists are in jail awaiting trial -- TEHRAN (AFP)
