Iran Parliament to Host Meeting on ‘Islamic Revolution in Palestine’

The Iranian parliament will hold a three-day international conference in April on backing "the Islamic revolution in Palestine," the head of the legislature's reform faction said Sunday.
MP Ali-Akbar Mohtashemi, one of the founders of the Hizbollah in Lebanon and Iran's former ambassador to Syria, said the conference would be attended by Iranian, Arab and Islamic leaders.
The meeting is aimed at "supporting the uprising of the Palestinian Muslim people and the Islamic revolution in Palestine," said Mohtahshemi, cited by state media.
He heads Iran's Committee to Support the Islamic Revolution in Palestine, which was created by radical MPs in the 1990s but remained mostly dormant during the years of conservative majority in parliament.
The committee was reorganized after reformists won a majority in the legislature at the polls in February.
Iran does not recognize Israel, is opposed to the peace process and has welcomed the latest uprising which has left more than 350 people dead, most of them Palestinians killed by Israeli troops, since late September -- TEHRAN (AFP)
