Iran Religious Students Demonstrate against Reformists
Hundreds of Iranian theology students demonstrated in Tehran and across the nation on Monday to protest against reformers who attended a controversial political conference, state broadcast media said.
Theological colleges throughout the nation cancelled classes and closed their doors in a protest over the conference earlier this month in Germany, which has caused a political furore.
Iran's prosecutor general Ayatollah Morteza Moqtadai confirmed Monday that Tehran's hard-line revolutionary court would investigate several participants at the conference, who included some close allies of President Mohammad Khatami.
Khatami supporters criticized the regime at the Berlin conference, where members of the armed opposition People's Mujahadeen put in an appearance and a woman danced with bare arms -- taboo under Iran's Islamic law.
Conservative-run state television showed footage from the seminar last week in what reformists say was a bid to undermine them politically -- TEHRAN (AFP).
