Iraq suicide bomber leaves at least 10 dead south of Baghdad
Agence France Presse reported Monday that a suicide bomber in central Iraq left at least 10 people dead and wounded 35 others.
According to security and medical sources, the suicide bomber drove the bomb-laden vehicle into a police checkpoint in the Suweirah area south of Baghdad.
Monday's attack follows Sunday's bombing at a university in Baghdad that left at least 16 people dead.
Despite such escalating violence and deteriorating security conditions, Iraq is expected to have parliamentary elections on April 30, representing the first nationwide elections in the country since American troops withdrew in 2011.
