Iraq violence continues as parliamentary elections approach
Iraqi security forces killed 19 militants Monday while attacks elsewhere left three dead, reports AFP.
Iraq is witnessing a spike in violence ahead of parliamentary elections, which will be held April 30. Recent attacks are the worst Iraq has seen since 2008, according to AFP.
Tensions are high because of sectarian strife between the Sunni and Shia populations. The Sunni minority has accused the Shia-led government of oppression and maltreatment. The unrest has killed over 2,000 people.
