ISIS executes 80 in Fallujah
ISIS terrorists have summarily executed scores of people near the Iraqi city of Fallujah in the western province of Anbar.
The news of the execution of 80 Iraqi people was broken by a commander of a Sunni militant group that is fighting against the ISIS in the region.
Mahmoud al-Mardi said the slain people, among whom were also elderly people, were rounded up and executed in the main square of the city of al-Karmah northeast of Fallujah.
Further details on the massacre were not immediately available.
The killing came after the Iraqi army, supported by local tribes, liberated the three cities of Akashat, Zankurah and An Nukhayb in Anbar Province from ISIS on Tuesday.
“The operations to liberate the three cities from the control of ISIS lasted five days, during which the army and the tribes made exceptional heroic efforts,” Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman Mohammed al-Askari said.
The army said it arrested scores of ISIS militants and freed a number of individuals that the group had held captive.
Since early this year, Iraq has been facing a growing militancy by the ISIS group and its allied militants, who have taken over areas in the country’s west and north. The crisis has deteriorated since June, when the ISIS declared a so-called caliphate in the territories they have seized.
The ISIS terrorists have threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians, Yazidi Kurds and others, in Iraq. They have been committing heinous crimes in the areas they have taken, including the mass execution of civilians as well as Iraqi army troops and officers.
The Iraqi army, backed by Kurdish forces and thousands of volunteers, is engaged in fierce fighting with the ISIS militants to push them out of the captured areas.
