Iraq: At least 24 dead in Kirkuk bombing attacks
At least 24 people died and 33 others wounded Tuesday in nearly simultaneous bombing attacks in the northern Iraqi oil city of Kirkuk, police said.
Iraqi police sources said the first blast involved a car bomb targeting a police patrol, killing at least 10 people -- all but two of them civilians. A few minutes later, a suspected suicide car bomber tried to go through a police checkpoint. When guards at the checkpoint opened fire, the car exploded. The second blast killed two policemen and three civilians.
The sources said a total of seven bomb attacks were made on several targets in the city.
