Rocket launch sites in Gaza have been targeted by the Israeli air force after rockets were fired from the location, reported AFP. The airstrikes come hours before peace talks are set to resume in Jerusalem.
"The raid targeted two rocket launch sites after rockets were fired Tuesday from the Gaza Strip, one of which exploded on Israeli territory," an army spokesman told AFP. "Hamas must account for any violation of Israeli sovereignty, and the terrorist regime that it has put in place will be held responsible for any terrorist activity coming from the Gaza Strip,"
No one was injured in the attack.
Hamas, the Islamist political party in control of the Gaza Strip, does not support the U.S. brokered peace negotiations, as they do not recognize Israel as a legitimate state.
Earlier on Wednesday, Israel released 26 Palestinian prisoners in accordance with Palestinian wishes. But on Tuesday, Israel announced plans to continue with 942 new settler homes in East Jerusalem, which was annexed after the 1967 war, invoking Palestinian anger.
