Israel arrests dozens of West Bank fence opponents
Israeli soldiers stormed into a house in the West Bank and detained over 40 opponents of its so-called "security fence," 34 of them foreigners of the International Solidarity Movement, some of the detainees said, according to AFP. They were taken by bus to a police station in the northern West Bank settlement of Ariel.
The demonstrators were occupying the house in Meskhah, near the city of Qalqiliya, in an attempt to stop the Israelis bulldozing the Palestinian owner's garden to set up the barrier cutting off the West Bank from Israel.
The Palestinians and rights groups charge that the barrier is an attempt by the Israeli government to annex the West Bank's "bread-basket" and unilaterally determine the borders of a future Palestinian state.
Israeli forces also detained six Palestinians in the West Bank overnight Monday. (Albawaba.com)
