Israel considering banishment of French diplomat
Israel is considering the banishment of a French diplomat who was part of last week's altercation between Israeli border police and EU diplomats trying to enter the West Bank to provide aid to Palestinians, according to Haaretz.
Israel officials are accusing the diplomat, Marion Fesneau-Castaing, of "inappropriate behavior" and are currently deciding whether to declare her persona non-grata. No decision has yet been announced.
- According to the Israeli Foreign Ministry, the diplomats have violated diplomatic codes of conduct and acted as "provocateurs" by helping Palestinians build tents in Khirbet Makhoul in a zone where Palestinian construction is considered illegal.
Fesneau-Castaing serves as a cultural attaché at the French Consulate in Jerusalem which is responsible for relations with the Palestinian Authority. Israel has described this event as "grave" for Israel-French relations, according to the Haaretz report.
The EU ambassador to Israel also exchanged messages with the Foreign Ministry since the scuffle, requesting more information regarding the details of the debacle.
