Israeli PM is making a Palestinian state impossible, watchdog says

Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu's settlement policies, have shown intent to make a Palestinian state impossible to create, Israeli watchdog, The Peace Now Group, said in a report on Wednesday. 

The Peace Now Group say that almost 40 per cent of construction during Netanyahu's four-year term have been in settlements deep in the West Bank, compared to 20 per cent under his predecessor, AP reported. 

Palestinians want a state in the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem. But since capturing these territories in 1967, Israel has moved 500,000 of its civilians there. 

While Netanyahu has expressed willingness to negotiate, he has also said he wants Israel to keep Jerusalem and parts of the West Bank. 

In Wednesday's report, The Peace Now Group accused Netanyahu of approving projects in particularly problematic areas.

The report was released a week before Israel's election, which political commentators say Netanyahu is set to win.
