Israel's Acting Foreign Minister to Discuss Peace Process in Amman
Israeli acting Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben Ami is due in Amman Monday to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian peace process with top ranking Jordanian officials, sources from both sides said Sunday.
The visit, which will last a few hours, "is an illustration of Israel's concern to keep Jordan informed about the latest developments in the peace process, particularly the Israel-Palestinian track," an Israeli diplomat told AFP.
The diplomat stressed "Amman's important role in relaunching the process."
Jordanian officials confirmed plans for Ben Ami's visit, saying he would meet his counterpart Abdel-Ilah Khatib and other top officials.
Ben Ami said Sunday he was pushing for a summit between Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, and put the chances of reaching a deal at 50-50 - AMMAN (AFP)
