Iyad Maalouf from Jordan Reaches ‘Proof of Concept’ Round of Stars of Science

Iyad Maalouf of Jordan has progressed to the next round of the second season of the Pan Arab TV program "Stars of Science" after he was selected as one of the top 10 candidates to reach the 'Proof of Concept' phase.

Maalouf was selected, along with 9 other candidates from 7 Arab countries, after facing top-level expert jurors for the first time since his admission to the workshop, and convincing them that his innovative "biopsy extraction device" is feasible.

Including the permanent jurors, two special guest jurors were involved in the latest challenge - Dr Farouk El-Baz, a world-renowned scientist who participated in the NASA Apollo program, and Dr. Eyad Masad, Assistant Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M in Qatar.

The next episode of the competition – titled Engineering week - will begin on Sunday, November 7th and will provide viewers with an opportunity to learn more about the functionality of each project, as the candidates assemble a fully-functional prototype. As a new feature of the season, each candidate will have the opportunity to receive support from a Project Partner of their choice.

The Stars of Science TV program, an initiative of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development is currently being broadcast across the Arab world during prime time on Sunday evenings.
